Farm & Forest
Growers Cooperative

Who We Are

The Farm & Forest Growers Cooperative works with small-scale farmers and nursery people from the Twin Cities and north.   See our 2025 Climate Smart Tree Growers Here!

Our Mission is:

  • Promoting healthy forests in the face of a dramatically changing climate by supplying climate smart tree seedlings for Minnesotans (ie, individuals, organizations, institutions, and governmental entities) engaged in forest planting and restoration efforts.

  • Building up rural economies by supporting small- to mid-scale farmers/nursery people/homesteaders to develop tree seedling enterprises on their land,

The Farm & Forest Growers Cooperative was incorporated in March 2023, so is yet a young cooperative.  As the cooperative continues to develop and grow, it seeks to support the member-growers via production support
bulk input purchasing, overwintering support,
marketing, sales & product delivery, negotiating contracts, public  relations and more.

Being a Grower

Our growers produce anywhere from a few hundred to many thousands of seedlings each year.  Some grow in tree plugs inside high tunnels, others grow bare root in fields, and some are experimenting with bare root in air prune beds.  To learn more about becoming a climate smart tree seedling grower, visit our Growers Resources page.

What does it take to be a seedling grower?

  • Be willing/interested in learning how to successfully grow out native trees, such as: Oaks (Red, Bur, Pin, Swamp & White), Yellow Birch, White Cedar, Black Walnut, Black Cherry, Maples (Sugar & Silver), American Basswood and more.

  • Be willing/interested in working closely with TNC, Farm & Forest Growers Cooperative and CEDA around production planning, and the growing, marketing and sales of climate smart tree seedlings.

  • Be interested in developing climate smart seedling production as a business enterprise to incorporate into your farming/growing operation.
